1. Who we are

Oxelvanta is an independent editorial website at oxelvanta.com that helps people in Ireland discover free-to-play online video games. For the personal data described in this policy, Oxelvanta acts as the data controller: we decide why and how that data is used.

We do not operate the games we review. We do not create player accounts, take deposits, hold balances, provide real-money prizes or offer withdrawals. When you leave Oxelvanta for a publisher or store, that third party's privacy policy applies.

2. Data we collect

Data you provide

If you email us, we receive your email address, name (if supplied), message and any other information you choose to include. Please do not send passwords, payment details, government identifiers or sensitive personal data.

Basic technical data

Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may generate security and access logs. These can contain an IP address, date and time, requested page, browser or device information, referring page and diagnostic error data. We use this limited information to deliver the site, keep it secure and investigate faults.

Browser preferences

We store your cookie choice in your browser's local storage under oxelvanta_cookie_consent. Catalogue searches and filters run locally in your browser and are not sent to us by the site code.

Data we do not intentionally collect

Oxelvanta has no registration, profile, payment, deposit, prize or cash-out feature. We do not ask for gaming account credentials, bank details, precise location or identity documents. We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

3. How we use data

We use personal data only where necessary to:

  • load pages, remember privacy preferences and provide requested site features;
  • reply to enquiries, corrections, rights requests or editorial feedback;
  • protect the site, users and infrastructure from fraud, abuse and security incidents;
  • diagnose technical problems and understand service reliability;
  • comply with applicable Irish or EU law and establish or defend legal claims.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use contact messages for unrelated marketing, and we do not send a newsletter unless a separate sign-up and notice are introduced.

4. Legal bases

ActivityDataGDPR basis
Deliver and secure the websiteTechnical and access-log dataOur legitimate interests in operating a secure, reliable editorial site (Article 6(1)(f)).
Reply to your messageContact details and correspondenceOur legitimate interests in responding; or steps at your request before a contract where relevant (Articles 6(1)(f) and 6(1)(b)).
Remember privacy choicesConsent-preference recordCompliance with legal obligations and our legitimate interest in respecting your selection (Articles 6(1)(c) and 6(1)(f)).
Optional non-essential technologyData described at the point of choiceYour consent (Article 6(1)(a)). No optional analytics service is currently loaded by this site.
Legal compliance and claimsRelevant recordsLegal obligation or legitimate interests (Articles 6(1)(c) and 6(1)(f)).

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider necessity, proportionality and your rights. You may object to this processing as explained below.

5. When we share data

We disclose data only as needed to service providers that host, secure or maintain the website and email service; professional advisers under duties of confidentiality; authorities where disclosure is legally required; or a successor in a genuine business reorganisation, subject to appropriate safeguards.

These recipients may act as processors under written instructions or as independent controllers where the law determines their role. We do not share personal data with game publishers merely because you view a game card. If you select an official-site link, your browser connects to that third party and its terms apply.

6. International transfers

We aim to use providers in the European Economic Area where practical. A service provider may process data outside the EEA. Where that happens, we use a lawful transfer mechanism such as an adequacy decision, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or another safeguard permitted by GDPR, together with supplementary measures where appropriate. You may ask us about the relevant safeguard.

7. How long we keep data

  • General enquiries: normally up to 12 months after the conversation closes.
  • Rights, legal or complaint records: normally up to 6 years where necessary to demonstrate compliance or manage a claim.
  • Security logs: normally up to 90 days, unless an incident requires longer investigation.
  • Cookie preference: remains in local storage until you clear site data or update the choice; you can reopen Cookie settings at any time.

We may keep a record for longer where law requires it, a dispute is active or evidence must be preserved. We delete or anonymise data when no longer needed.

8. Your data-protection rights

Subject to GDPR conditions and exceptions, you can ask for access to your personal data; correction; deletion; restriction; portability; or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Email privacy@oxelvanta.com with enough detail for us to understand the request. We may ask for proportionate proof of identity. We normally respond within one month; GDPR permits an extension for complex or numerous requests, in which case we will explain why.

You may also raise a concern with the Irish Data Protection Commission through its official contact page, or by post at Data Protection Commission, 6 Pembroke Row, Dublin 2, D02 X963, Ireland. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.

9. Children and age ratings

This general-audience editorial site is not designed to collect children's personal data and has no account service. If you are under 16, ask a parent or guardian before emailing us or allowing optional technology. Parents or guardians who believe a child has sent us personal data can contact us to request deletion.

Games linked from Oxelvanta have their own PEGI ratings, account-age rules, parental controls and purchase systems. A game being free-to-play does not mean it is suitable for every age.

10. Security and external links

We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards intended to protect data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No internet system is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Our reviews link to official publisher and platform sites. We do not control their content, tracking or security. Check the destination address and its privacy information before creating an account or installing software.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our site, providers or legal obligations change. The effective date and version at the top identify the current text. If a change materially affects how we use existing personal data, we will provide a proportionate notice and request consent where law requires it.
